Curriculum

Content

The new curriculum has twelve subjects in seven groupings:

1. Language:Irish, English
2. Maths
3. Physical Education
4. Social, Personal and Health Education
5. Education for the Arts: Visual Arts, Music and Drama
6. Social, Environmental and Scientific education: History, Geography and Science
7. Religious Education

The principal division of content within each subject is the strand.


English:

Receptiveness to language
Competence and confidence in using language
Developing cognitive abilities through language
Emotional and imaginative development through language

Gaeilge:

Éisteacht, Labhairt, Léitheoireacht, Scríbhneoireacht

Maths:

Early mathematical activities, Number, Algebra, Shape and Space,  Measures, Data,




S.E.S.E.:

History:

Local Studies, Story, Early people and ancient society, Life, society, work and culture in the past,  Eras of change and conflict, Politics, conflict and society,  Continuity and change over time

Geography:

Human environments, Natural environments, Environmental awarenes and care

Science:

Living things, Energy and forces, Materials, Environmental awarenes and care

Visual Arts:

Drawing, Paint and colour, Clay, Construction, Print, Fabric and fibre                                                      



Music:

Listening and responding, Performing, Composing

Drama:

Drama to explore feelings, knowledge and ideas, leading to understanding

Physical Education:

Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Outdoor and adventure, activities, Aquatics.
